TITHING

Should I tithe before or after taxes?
Kabbalah teaches that tithing is a spiritual tool that brings consciousness and cleansing to money. Tithing before or after taxes is up to the discretion of the donor.

What is the source of the concept of tithing?
From a kabbalistic point of view, the concept of tithing originated in the Torah and was later elaborated on in the main text of Kabbalah, the Zohar. The Torah recounts several instances of tithing involving the Patriarchs, and the system of the tithe is explained in correspondence to the Shemittah-cycle specifically in the Books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Is tithing a concept found only in Kabbalah?
No, tithing has been written about and promoted in several ancient spiritual texts, including the Bible and the Koran. The concept of tithing is found in, but not limited to, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism. The kabbalists teach that tithing is an act of sharing 10% of one’s income with the consciousness that in doing so, you are removing any limitation that may block a complete flow of blessings into your life. This perspective comes from the kabbalistic principle that reality is divided into ten levels of energy, with the lowest level being our physical reality, characterized by limitation and finiteness. By sharing 10% of our physical wealth, we have the opportunity to remove limitation from our money, thus allowing ourselves to be greater channels for continuous sustenance and sharing.

Can I tithe to other organizations?
Yes, tithing is ideally suited to any place that adds value to and lifts the consciousness of the world. Supporting The Kabbalah Centre educates and empowers more and more people globally towards this exact end.
